Frequently Asked Questions about Antenatal Classes

When to start antenatal classes?

My advice is for people to attend antenatal classes when they are around 24-30 weeks pregnant, though this is only a rough guide. The benefits of attending around this gestation will mean that you get to meet and socialise with people who are going through the same things at the same time as you. This is particularly important in the postnatal period. Making friends... Read more.

What is the difference between The Essex Midwife’s antenatal classes and other local classes?

There are no local antenatal courses running that are taught by experts working in the maternity system. Antenatal courses available in this area are taught by ‘antenatal educators’.

Do you provide any support after my baby is born?

I offer postnatal support in the comfort of your own home. Appointments can be arranged around your schedule and are flexible, to provide you with the support that you need. My rate for these sessions is £70 per hour. Please contact me directly to arrange this, information how to do this is at the bottom of this page.

Who to bring?

The course is for you and your partner or birth partner. You are extremely welcome to come alone or with a friend or relative. If you have a partner who cannot attend every session, please feel free to bring a friend or relative in their place.

What to bring?

The venue is laid back and chilled. There is a bar in the room where teaching takes place, with a member of staff manning it on arrival and during the break. You can sit back, relax and listen to what is being said, no need to take notes. I send out emails after every session re-capping what has been taught. This means that you get to access it easily and keep it forever, with the added bonus that trees aren't hurt in the process.

So in other words, there is no need to bring anything!
